JKAACL organises Punjabi Mushaira

R S PURA: Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) in collaboration with Punjabi Sahitak Sabha, R S Pura organised a Punjabi Mushaira at R S Pura on Sunday.

Rajesh Bittu, Chairman, State Cooperative Society was the Chief Guest while Dr Monojit, eminent Punjabi writer and President, Punjabi Lekhak Sabha, Jammu presided.

Paramjit Kaur, wife of late Sewa Singh Sheetal, prominent Punjabi poet, Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Ashok Choudhary, Panchayat Prabhari, R S Pura were also present in the presidium.

Rajesh Bittu said that R S Pura area is very fertile land where the poets, writers, freedom fighters, social activists and farmers, with their dint of hard work brought this region to national limelight.

Dr Monojit, while delivering his presidential address said that the Punjabi poetry, literature and culture is very rich particularly in  R S Pura and other areas of the State and needs to be preserved and promoted.

Dr Arvinder Singh Amn said that J&K Cultural Academy since last few years is focusing towards the remote and rural areas of the State particularly border belt. He also informed that young and budding writers, artists are given preference and provided platform to explore their talent of creative writing. He further invited the audience to participate in two-day Punjabi Writers Conference being organised by JKAACL on December 12 and 13, 2017 at Abhinav theatre, Jammu.

Swami Anterveerav, President, Punjabi Sahitak Sabha, R S Pura presented the welcome address.

Bhupinder Singh Bhargwa,  Balwinder Singh, Suraj Prakash Rattan, Jang S Varman, Nirmal Gobindpuri, Swami Anterneerav, Saran G Star, Balwinder Singh Deep, Suraj Singh, Shamsher Singh Chouhalvi, Bachan Bharti, V N Dil, Rahi Simbalpuri, Dr Pritam Singh, Gurpreet Kaur, Harsimran Singh, Saroop Singh and Joginder Paul Singh presented their couplets during the Mushaira.

A book ‘Mrig Trishna, a collection of Punjabi writer late Sewa Singh Sheetal and edited by Paramjit Kaur, wife of the author, was also released on the occasion. Rajinder Singh, Punjabi scholar and writer and Punjabi teacher at SPMR Commerce College, Canal Road, Jammu presented a review paper on the book.

Dr Pritam Singh, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Punjabi, University of Jammu conducted the proceedings of the programme while Popinder Singh Paras, Editor Punjabi presented vote of thanks.
