J&K Police to face SGPC Amritsar in hockey final

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Police shall be playing against SGPC Amristar in the final of the IV Sant Gurbaksh Singh (Danna) Memorial Hockey Tournament, organised by SPDC Trust Guru Nanak Nagar under the aegis of Hockey J and K at KK Hakhu Stadium, here tomorrow at 2:30 PM.
Earlier, in the semifinals, played on Saturday, SGPC Amritsar outplayed New Gurdaspur XI 4-2 via tie-breaker.
In the stipulated time, the match ended in a 1-1 draw. For SGPC Amritsar, Gurtej Singh scored the lone goal in 28th minute. Later, in tie-breaker, Gurtej Singh, Robinpreet and Ravinder Pal successfully netted the ball. Similarly, from Gurdaspur XI, Rahul brought in the equaliser in the 55th minute thereby extending the game to the penalty shootouts. The only successful shooter in tie-breaker was Gurkirat Singh. In the first semifinal, ADGP Security, Dilbag Singh was Chief Guest, who interacted with the teams.
Meanwhile, in other semifinal of the day, J and K Police outplayed Punjabi University Patiala 2-1, again via tie-breaker.
In the given time the match ended in a goalless draw. Satwant Singh and Sunil were scorers for Police in penalties while the lone goal for Punjabi University came through Karanveer.
Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Jammu, Ashwani Khajuria was Chief Guest in the second semifinal while Updesh Kour Bali was Guest of Honour.
Prominent among others present were Rajinder Singh Raja, GS Baskhi, Indpal Singh Munna, Harvinder Singh, Iqbal Singh, Janak Singh, Paramjeet Singh, Balvinder Singh and Sharanjit Singh Shunty.
Today’s semifinals were officiated by the technical panel including Jagjeet Singh, Joginder Singh, Karanjit Singh, Senapati and Satvir Singh (Tournament Director).
