JK gets Rs 2,800 cr for upgradation, macadamisation of roads: Veeri

SRINAGAR: The State Government has received Rs 2800 crore under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) for macadamization of roads in the State.
This was stated by the Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri, during a review meeting to check progress of works under execution under PMGSY scheme. The tenders have been issued and demarcation and upgradation is under process, the minister said.
The minister asked the officers to improve the work efficiency and move men and machinery for making the state one of the better road connected states.
Veeri sought detailed report about the progress of works from phase 3 to phase 10. He stressed upon the officers to use advanced technology, modern equipments and better material so that it could become benchmark for the future works in the state.
Veeri directed the officers to utilize the winter season for the demarcation and upgradation of roads so that by March the roads are ready for macadamization.
The Minister also stressed upon engineers to clear the backlog of pending works of different phases and asked them to clear the pending DPRs by December.
The meeting decided that State Roads Development Authority (SRDA) needs to reconfirm that reconciliation of accounts has been completed as per the audit master sheet for enabling e-payment system. The meeting also decided that provision for cheque system needs to be extended up to ending December till reconciliation of accounts which could not be completed due to prevailing condition.
Veeri directed the concerned engineers to utilize the machinery of mechanical department for executing various projects of road maintenance. He also asked the officers that they should work for the beautification of roads as well.
