Jammu Mayor takes anti-polythene campaign to Girls Hr Sec Nowabad, Hari Singh Hr Sec
Walk on May 26 to give boost to campaign

JAMMU: The Mayor of Jammu city, Rajinder Sharma on Thursday took the ongoing anti-polythene and anti-plastic campaign to Maharaja Hari Singh Higher Secondary and Government Girls Higher Secondary Schools Nowabad.
The campaign got overwhelming response by the students and staff at these institutions and over 200 people filled the Commitment Certificate using the app thereby expressing willingness to join the campaign.
All committed to stop using polythene from today onwards starting from their homes and assured to follow directions of JMC to eradicate plastic and polythene from Jammu.
Students and the staff of these schools said that they shall now use carry bags made of biodegradable materials to lower hazards to the environment.
Apart from students, staff of these schools also took an oath to support the campaign and said that this campaign is for their own well being.
The Mayor expressed confidence with that such a highly-spirited students and staff of educational institutions supporting the campaign, Jammu will be free from polythene and plastic made things within a month.
He also talked on the importance of hard work and self-confidence to achieve success and informed that presently Jammu is worst hit by the massive use of polythene carry bags and plastic which has caused lot of land pollution and chocked drains which cause floods even after a slight rainfall in the city.
The Mayor said that on May 26, a walk shall be organised to further disseminate the message for anti-polythene and anti-plastic campaign in Jammu.
“The walk shall start at 10 am from Parade Ground Jammu to Maharaja Hari Singh Park and the Chief Secretary of J&K, Dr. Arun Mehta shall join the walk while other officers and public at large shall also join the walk,” he informed.
“All educational institutions, morning walkers, social-religious organisations, traders, NGOs, priests and others will too join the walk to make it a history,” he continued.
It is pertinent to mention here that about 1000 students are daily joining the anti-polythene campaign as the Mayor is meeting them on daily basis carrying forward the outreach programme launched by PM Modi.
Debate on ‘Hazards of Poly-Bags’ was also organised on this occasion at Govt. Hari Singh Hr Sec School and the Vice Principal, Vijay Kumari awarded the winners wherein Zabir Ulah Ganaie won 1st prize, Sadhagar Hussain, 2nd and third prize was shared by Raghav Mahajan and Mohd. Haider.
At Govt Girls Hr Sec School Nowabad, Principal, Poonam Langeh and Vice Principal, Neelam Sharma along with Program Organizer, Poonam Gupta and Rahul Kesar distributed prized to the winners wherein first prize was won by Bhumika Kattel, second by Vanshika Sharma and the third prize was shared by Saksham Sharma and Varsha Angral. Senior Lecturer Neelam Sharma presented a vote of thanks to the guests.
