Jammu Mayor holds interactive session on polythene ban in GGM Science College

JAMMU: GGM Science College, in collaboration with Jammu Municipal Corporation organized a special awareness-cum-Interactive Session on the Polythene Ban making it a mass movement involving janbhagedari among the youth in educational institutions under the aegis of India’s G-20 Presidency.
Rajinder Sharma, Jammu Mayor, was the Chief Guest on the occassion and Baldev Singh Billawaria Deputy Mayor, Jammu was the Guest of Honour. The programme was successfully conducted under the guidance of Prof. Rajesh Kumar Gupta, Principal of the college and under the supervision of Dr. Anil Kumar Verma, Dr. Vinod Bakshi, Prof. Raj Kumar Gupta and Prof. Hitesh Basotra.
The program was coordinated by Dr. Deepali Mahajan NSS Program Officer and Eco Club Convenor Prof Preeti Dogra along with other team members Dr. Pankaj Bandhoria, Dr. Devinder Kumar Sharma, Dr. Sham Singh, Dr. Lakhwinder Singh, Prof. Kiran and Prof. Jyotdeep. A debate competition on the topic “Why Polythene Should be Banned?”.
The debate was judged by Dr. Poonam Kamotra, Dr. Deepa Mattoo and Dr Chanchal Angral. Anil Kumar Sharma from Sem V secured 1st position while Damandeep Singh, also from Sem V, secured 2nd position. The 3rd position was shared by Akriti Sharma of Sem II and Ananya Gupta of Sem IV. Certificates were given to the winners by Mayor Jammu. A thought-provoking skit highlighting the negative consequences of polythene usage was also performed by the NSS volunteers. A sapling was also planted in the College premises by the Mayor to commemorate the occasion as a symbol of commitment towards Clean Jammu Green Jammu. The Mayor emphasized on the need for collaborative efforts to eliminate the use of polythene, envisioning a cleaner and greener future for Jammu. The Deputy Mayor highlighted the significance of youth engagement in environmental initiatives and encouraged students to become ambassadors of change.
The proceedings of the programme was conducted by Prof. Preeti Dogra, Head, Department of EVS. The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Deepali Mahajan, NSS Programme Officer.
