Jammu Bandh today; Bar suspends work

JAMMU: Seeking strict action against all those who indulged in anti-national activities inside the National Institute of Technology (NIT) campus in Srinagar, various political parties including Panthers, Shiv Sena and Shri Ram Sena have announced one-day Bandh in Jammu, on April 7, 2016 (Thursday).
Demanding dismissal of police personnel indulging in lathicharge on non-local students in NIT, the Jammu based leaders said that all those who raised Pro Azadi slogans, celebrated the defeat of India in semi-finals of World Cup, pelted stones on those raising pro-India slogans besides indulging in India-bashing were required to be booked for sedition.’
Meanwhile, as a mark of protest, the Bar Association has suspended the work in the High Court, District Courts and Tribunals on Thursday.
Jammu Bar Association has stressed upon the authorities to ensure to curb such incidents in future to order to maintain peace and harmony in the entire state. It was also unanimously resolved that safety and security of the non locals is the prime responsibility and obligation of the State Government and it is further expected that such like incidents do not re occur in the future.
The General House meeting of J&K High Court Bar Association, under the chairmanship of its President Advocate Abhinav Sharma and other office bears General Secretary A P Singh, Joint Secretary Depesh Singh Pawar, Treasurer Rahul Sharma, YLA President Daljeet Singh Manhas and YLA Vice President Pardeep Majotra were also present Jammu was held on Wednesday on in the Bar Room No. 1, District Court Complex, Jammu.
The agenda of meeting was to discuss the incident of beating the NIT students (non-local) and their safety in the valley.
The meeting was attended by large number of lawyers, including prominent Senior Advocates such as Sunil Sethi, B.S. Slathia, M.A. Goni, Surinder Singh, V.R. Wazir, E.A. Tak, S.S. Khajuria, C.S. Gupta and other members of the Bar Association.
