Jammu and Kashmir highway closed for vehicular traffic
Jammu: The 300-km long Jammu-Srinagar national highway, connecting Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country, was today closed for vehicular traffic to carry out repair of the damaged stretches.
As per the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Traffic, J P Singh, the traffic on the highway from both the sides was suspended today to carry out repair work of the damages at Magarkote and Peerah in Ramban district.
No movement of any type of vehicle was allowed from either side of the highway, he said.
Men and machinery of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and other agencies have been deployed to carry out the much needed repair of the highway, he said.
The closure of traffic movement had become inevitable to enable the maintenance agencies to take up maintenance and widening of the road at the above said two patches.
The repair of the highway had also become important in view of the forthcoming Amarnath yatra.
