SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Friday started functioning from a makeshift arrangement at Gupkar Road here after floods affected the court premises near Jehangir Chowk.
Chief Justice M.M Kumar requested the employees of the High Court to report for work at the makeshift office.
The Court work remained suspended for 11 days as flood water inundated the Court Complex on 7th September.
The Chief Justice said the objective is to restore to people the obligation of providing them the fundamental rights.
He hoped people would be benefited by this move and their difficulties would be redressed.
The Chief Justice is himself putting up at the top floor of the makeshift building as his residence at Sonawar has become inhabitable due to floods.
He said the District Court of Srinagar would start functioning from two points.
For areas of north city, a temporary Court would be established in the Moot court rooms of Law Department of Kashmir University.
The areas comprise the jurisdictions of Police Stations of Rainawari, S.R Gunj, Soura, Khanyar, Nowhatta and adjoining areas.
Similarly, for areas of South Srinagar coming under the jurisdiction of Police Stations of Shergarhi, Parimpora, Maisuma, Batamaloo and Saddar, a temporary court has been set up at the Custodian General building at Hyderpora.
Kumar said most of

records in the courts have been salvaged and shifted to first and second floors.
He appreciated the efforts of the employees of courts, particularly of Bijbehara court, who saved the court records.
The Chief Justice said as soon as water recedes from the premises, the High Court would start functioning from its own place after clean up operations.

Can thirst of bloodhounds…
people believe ‘leaders’ like Mirwaiz Umar who have little appreciation of world affairs? Imagine, the so-called Mirwaiz seeking assistance and loans from World Bank and other global financial institutions to ‘rebuild Kashmir’. He should not make the mistake of treating the global institutions like New Delhi which goes out of way in meeting the unjustified demands emanating from Kashmir in a desperate bid to woo over a bunch of chronic India bashers that can never be won. The vested interests in Kashmir have tasted blood and it is now difficult to quench their thirst or to change them for good.
Mirwaiz puts damage in Kashmir at around one lakh crore rupees. This huge amount will surely be made available by none other than New Delhi despite being condemned and maligned, day in and day out. This is what has been happening for the past six and half decades and there seems to be no reason why this should not continue in future as well because of gutless Indian leaders.
