International Women’s Day celebrated across region Women empowerment pre-requisite to ensure equal rights: Dy CM

KATHUA: To commemorate the International Women’s Day a programme was organised at Town Hall Kathua where Dy CM, Dr Nirmal Singh was the Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Singh said the objective of observing the International Women’s Day is to change the way the society looks at the women and ensure a world where the only limit on them is their talent not gender. He said the responsibility to provide a conducive and protective atmosphere to the girl child rests first with the family and then on the society at large.
The Dy CM said that the present government has introduced some path-breaking women welfare schemes including Laadli Beti, Aasra and Marriage Assistance in the State to address the concerns of girl child right from the birth to adulthood and provide financial security to them. “As we celebrate International Women’s Day this year let us also bear in mind that the struggle is far from over. Be Bold for Change by taking groundbreaking action that truly drives the greatest change for women’s empowerment that should never be reduced to individual success stories. It should be about collective well-being”, he said.
On the occasion, several women staff members of Municipal Council Kathua were felicitated for their dedication and hard work.
Highlighting the role of women in every sphere of life, Dr Singh said that entire world celebrates this day with lot of enthusiasm to highlight the endeavours and achievements of the women in different capacities which give them courage and freedom to perform much better in life.
Dr Nirmal Singh also lauded the achievements of Dr Shivakshi Jasrotia of Kathua who won the prestigious Best Innovation Project Award at the first BRICS-EAEU meet, held at Moscow besides the mention of Kathua in Prime Minister`s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio programme for achieving distinguished feet in Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative.
Later, Dy CM met with several deputations that mainly comprised NHM employees and Ex-Servicemen.
Among others Mamta Singh, SWB member Updesh Andotra and prominent citizens were present in large numbers.
SAMBA: Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Parkash Ganga, advocated collective efforts for women empowerment which, he said, is pre-requisite for growth and development of a society. “A society based on equality without giving preferential treatment to any gender is considered an ideal society,” maintained the minister while calling for an attitudinal change towards the power and potential of women.
The minister was addressing a function organised by District Administration, Samba in connection with Laadli Beti Diwas under ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ initiative and culmination of Swachch Shakti Saptah under Swachch Bharat Mission on the occasion of International Women’s day.
Minister of State for Horticulture, Education, Tourism and Floriculture Priya Sethi, MLA Dr Devinder Kumar Manyal, District Development Commissioner, Sheetal Nanda and other officers of district administration were also present on the occasion.
Priya Sethi, while speaking on the occasion, said that the government will continue to support women’s initiatives in achieving their aspirations besides contributing towards country’s growth. “We should encourage the thought that our families should do everything to protect and nurture the girl child,” the minister said. She added that government is according due recognition to women’s role and contribution towards the society to encourage them participate in every sphere of life.
REASI: International Women’s Day was celebrated at Salal Power Station, Jyotipuram on Wednesday. On the occasion, A.G.Ansari had a meeting with all the women employees of Salal Power Station to enquire about their well being, problems faced by them at their work place and their issues with respect to their discomfort, if any.
Expressing respect for women, Ansari said that affection, love, confidence, patience and above all sacrifices for the family and society are noble virtues of a woman for which they need to be respected, may it be in family or in society. He appreciated the women employees of the power station as they are fighting at two fronts, i.e., at workplace as well as at home. He further took the opportunity by requesting women to exert a bit for success of ‘Less Cash’ and ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaigns of Govt. of India.
Govt. College For Women celebrated International Women’s Day with great zeal and enthusiasm. Dr. Satinder Singh ,Principal of the College presided over the function. NSS volunteers on the occasion presented colourful cultural items. Stuti and Monika recited poems highlighting women issues. A group folk song was presented on highlighting the status of girl child by students of Semester IVth. A Ladhakhi Group dance was also presented by Semester 2nd students. Dr. Satinder Singh, Principal of the college congratulated girl students and staff on International Women’s Day and stressed that we need to shun away gender bias if a healthy society has to be realised. Dr. Amita Dua NCC Officer highlighted the women issues through poem. Prof. Madhvi Parasher, NSS Programme Officer of the college exhorted that women are in a sense real architect of the society and we need to make sure that their voices are heard and heeded not overlooked and ignored. On this occasion officials from Punjab National Bank Kathua explained to the students about various female oriented schemes of Punjab National Bank. Puran Dhar Chief Manager PNB Kathua explained educational loan facility for female students. P.K Chouhan CA PNB Bank Kathua elaborated various central sponsored female oriented schemes like Suknya Samridhi Yojna and Kalyani etc. Sanjeev Verma Senior Manager IT gave power point presentation on cashless banking. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Prof Madhvi Parasher. Forrmal vote of thanks was presented by Prof Rakesh Singh Convener NSS Advisory Committee. Prof Umesh Chander Kailoo, Prof Shakun Mahajan , Prof Raj Kumari, Prof Usha Devi, Prof Gotam Lalotra including other faculty members graced the occasion. Large number of students along with NSS volunteers attended the function.
In the premises of Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidayalaya Kathua International Women’s Day was celebrated in which Ex-MLA Basohli Kanta Andotra was Chief Guest and Dr. Bharat Bhushan-Addl. Dy. Commissioner Kathua was the Guest of Honour.
Some guest lectures were delivered by different personalities to include Dr. Poonam Bhau, Advocate Deepanjali, Dr. Usha Moga, Sd. Tejinder Singh-Retd. Principal, BK Shalu, BK Sitakant, BK Govind Bhai, Ex. Vice-Chairman Municipal Council- Jatinder Singh Pappu, Prominent Dogri Poet-Vijay Kumar among others.

District Development Commissioner Kathua Ramesh Kumar chaired a workshop for women organised by district administration to mark International Women’s Day.
Women from all walks of life viz ex Panchs, Sarpanchs, district officers, officials, Anganwari workers, helpers and others attended the workshop.
The DDC while speaking on the occasion highlighted the role and importance of women in nation building. He said people must come forward to fight against the menace of adverse child sex ratio which raised its head due to apathy of every stakeholder of the society.
DDC also felicitated Indu Jamwal under BBBP and best women staff of Kathua Municipality for their best services under Swachh Bharat activities.
ADC Kathua Dr Bharat Bhushan, PO ICDS Rajinder Singh, ACD Kathua, District Informatics Officer besides other senior district officers witnessed the event.
The international Women’s Day was celebrated in the premises of Govt. HSS Budhi (Kathua). In this programme inter-house competition was held in which four participants from four different houses expressed their views on International Women’s Day. In this competition Diksha Salaria from Bhagat Singh House stood first, Sakshi from Subash House stood second and Vishali from Chandershekhar House and Prachi from Gandhi House stood third. S.D Singh Vice Principal and Baldev Raj Sr. Lecturer played their role as jury members whereas Satish Chandel Sr. Lecturer Physics organised the whole programme and Jyoti Bhadwal lecturer botany was the Special invited Guests who also spoke on the day. Principal Naresh Sharma congratulated the female staff and students on Women’s Day and asked the students especially females to come forward and compete with males in every fields.
BASOHLI: Women Cell of Ramshit College of Education Basohli celebrated International Women’s Day in which students of Semester 2nd and 4th participated with great zest and zeal. Dr. Saifullah Khan Principal of the College and Parveen Singh Lect. In social Science expressed their views. Chairman of the College Rajender Parshad Sharma applauded the efforts of the students and staff to make this programme a success.
Udhampur: International Women’s Day was also observed at Government Degree College Udhampur, in which Additional Deputy Commissioner Avny Lavasa was the Chief Guest. Stressing that both men and women have their role to play in the society, the ADC said that one section of the society cannot progress without the other.
A cultural programme highlighting various schemes like Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao was also organised by District Information Center, Udhampur, with an aim to sensitise the audience about the various schemes through folk songs and folk dances.
Earlier, District Social Welfare Officer Rachna Sharma also threw light on various schemes of the department launched for the welfare of the girls. At the end, Deputy DEO Sapna Kotwal presented vote of thanks to all those who contributed in one or other way in making the programme a success.
Another programme to mark the International Women’s Day was organised at ANMT School, District Hospital Udhampur with the collaborative efforts of ICDS and Health Department which was attended by the Anganwadi workers and ASHAs in large number.
The main objective of holding the programme was to generate awareness about the rights of women among the rural women through AWWs and ASHAs, said Chief Medical Officer, Dr Chander Prakash.
Among others, PO ICDS Rakesh Badyal, PO DRDA Dr. Jagdish Chander Mehra, DPO Sandeep Seointra, Medical Superintendent Dr. Narinder Bhatyal, CDPOs, AWWs, ASHAs and prominent citizens attended the programme.
RAMNAGAR: Govt. Degree College Ramnagar in collaboration with Dept. of Field Publicity and Broadcasting, Govt. of India, Udhampur organized programmes on the International Women’s Day under the supervision of Dr. Pankaj Sharma. The Principal of the college Prof. Tara Nath was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
The programme was in two parts. Fist part, creating awareness; started with brief introduction about the programme for general awareness of the students by Sardar Gurnam Singh, Field Publicity Officer, Udhampur about digital transactions, gender financial literacy, and the Importance of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, and Sukanya Smriddhi schemes. He said financial security is must for social security.
The second part of the programme was artistic in which the cultural team of publicity led by Vijay Malla presented skits on gender sensitisation, digital transactions and Female Feticide, which were appreciated by one and all. The programme came to an end by vote of thanks extended by Dr. Pankaj Sharma.
BHADARWAH: Like other parts of the country, International Women’s Day was also celebrated at Bhadarwah with zeal and enthusiasm on Wednesday.
The programme was held at Sub District Hospital Bhadarwah under the guidance of BMO Bhadarwah Dr. Yudhvir Singh Kotwal, in which staff and general public participated.
While congratulating the women on this auspicious day, BMO Bhadarwah Dr. Yudhvir Singh Kotwal threw light on the importance of women in the society and said no country can develop and sustain if women in these countries are not respected, empowered and emancipated.
A series of lectures were organised and delivered on this occasion by Dr. Anil Khajuria, Riaz Malik (HE), Om Parkash Shan (JHI), Charanjeet Singh (HE) , Vijay Mala (JSN) and Rinku Devi (ASHA) on various topics including Violence Against Women, Empowerment of Women, Rights of Woman and Health of Women.

SUNDERBANI: Intern-ational Women’s Day was celebrated at Municipal Community Hall Sunderbani by CDPO Sunderbani under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. Sub Division Magistrate (SDM) Sunderbani Kartar Singh was Chief Guest on the occasion while Tehsildar Sunderbani Vijay Sharma, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Sunderbani Govind Sharma, Priyanka Sharma Treasury Officer Sunderbani, Bimbla Pathania ZEO Lower Hathal, Anganwadi workers/helpers/Asha worker/female teachers and large number of women folk were also present.
KATRA: On the occasion of International Women’s Day Katra Youth Circle distributed copies, pen and snacks among needy child girls and women. President Katra Youth Circle Anchor Dharun Kesar along with Harish, Manik, Raju took part in this special and social cause. While speaking on the occasion Dharun Kesar said that no doubt society is leading equally by males and women but still women empowerment is need of the hour.
REASI: In an effort to generate awareness about gender equality and women empowerment, the army conducted social functions comprising lectures by local leaders and women successful in varied fields. A drawing and essay competition for children on the occasion of International Women’s Day was also conducted today.
In an effort to spread awareness about Gender-Equality and women empowerment amongst students, various social events were conducted at Darhal and Thanamandi. Students from various schools and Integrated Child Development Society workers alongwith house wives celebrated International Women’s Day. The events were followed by distribution of prizes to the deserving winners and hampers to meritorious students alongwith awards to 20 women who have made commendable contribution towards betterment of society.
