ASCOMS, MBS College reach QFs
JAMMU: Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS) and Mahant Bachiter Singh (MBS) College of Engineering and Technology on Tuesday qualified for the quarterfinals of the ongoing inter-college men’s football tournament, organised by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu (JU) on the campus grounds, here.
In the pre-quarterfinals, ASCOMS trounced Government Degree College (GDC) Udhampur 3-1. Though GDC Udhampur took the first lead when Saksham Sharma netted the ball in the very third minute, yet ASCOMS recovered and fought to first level the score and then take invincible lead.
Nikhil (10th), Usman (52nd) and Wamiq Farooq (58th) were the scorers from winning ASCOMS side.
Meanwhile, in another pre-quarterfinal game, MBS College defeated Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) 2-1 in a close contest. Tanveer netted both the goals from winning team striking in the 23rd and 45th minute.
The lone goal from MIET came on a penalty kick awarded in their favour in the 54th minute. It was Abhishek, who took the penalty and successfully beat the facing goal-keeper.
Today’s matches were officiated by the technical penal comprising Vijay Kumar, Ricky, Gulshan Kumar, Dr Brij Baloria and Gagan Kumar.
FIXTURE: Pre-quarterfinals: MAM College V/s GDC Poonch; SPNS Sunderbani V/s SPMR College of Commerce, GDC RS Pura V/s PG Law and Sciences, GDC Kathua V/s PG Arts.

VOLLEYBALL: Meanwhile, in inter-college women’s volleyball tournament, SPMR College of Commerce and PG Departments won their respective matches to move into the next round of the competition underway at JU grounds, here on Tuesday.
In the first match, Commerce College outplayed GDC Udhampur in straight sets of 25-12, 35-08 while in another match PG beat Government College for Women (GCW) Parade 2-0 (25-14, 25-20).
Matches were officiated by the technical penal including Amit Sharma, Naseeb Singh, Prableen Kour and Pallvi.
Prominent among those who witnessed the matches were Sumnesh Sharma, Suman Lata, Sudesh Bhagat and Vikesh Sharma and Goutam Sharma.
