It is gratifying that Mehbooba Mufti is gradually evolving as a politician. She takes a balanced view of the ground realities. Integration of this Valley is possible if we understand the spirit of Kashmir’s nationalism as distinct from separatism and take affirmative action to empower all citizens, including the vast section of youth who are drifting to mindless terror, and foster development as in the other states of the country. For years, New Delhi has adopted a centralised and colonial attitude towards J-K and the feelings of the people there have been hurt, leading to the rise of terror. Article 370 should be continued till the Kashmiris progress and prosper and only that would lead to annihilation of the self-injured identity and integration with the mainland.
