JAMMU: India on Friday handed over woman intruder’s body to Pakistan and discussed border issues at separate flag meetings held in Jammu and Kathua regions along International Border.
“The body of one Rashida Bibi, 50, wife of Rashid Ahmed, resident of Old Dewra, tehsil Sialkot, Pakistan was today handed over to her husband after conducting postmortem in Primary Health Centre Pargwal, Akhnoor on the city outskirts here,” official spokesman here said.
He said that the lady was shot dead late last night while intruding into Indian Territory.
He said the BSF men deployed on the IB challenged her to stop but when she did not pay heed to the warning, she was shot dead by the jawans.
“A flag meeting was conducted with Pak Rangers near Dewra BOP this evening at 1740 hrs to 1750 hrs and the body was handed over,” said the spokesman.
Meanwhile in a separate flag meeting, India, Pakistan discussed border issues along IB in Kathua sector of Jammu region.
“Around one-hour long Commandant-Wing Commandant Level meeting was held at Border Pillar No 15 on Indian request in Kathua sector on International Border,” official spokesman here said.
He said that Pakistan side delegation was headed by Lt Col Asmat Ullah Khan Wing Commander and three other officers while Indian delegation was led by Bhupinder Singh and K Ganesh, Commandant BSF and five other officers.
After welcoming the delegation India side raised agenda points like firing on BSF troops from Pak , repeated objections raised by Pak Rangers on maintenance work in bordering area by BSF, hunting by Pak persons close to border area and not responding to BSF requests for holding Coy Commander level Border Contacts.
“Indian delegation also objected the firing held in AOR of BOP Bobiya in month of October 2016 in which Pak people fired with rockets and automatic weapons,” said the spokesman.
He said that Pak Rangers assured that they want to maintain good relations with Counterpart Border Guarding forces and such meetings should be arranged more frequently in bordering areas.
Pak Rangers also raised few objections like burning of Sarkanda (wild grass) and fire entering into their territory destroying telephone wires and other things, he added.
The spokesman said that the meeting held in cordial manner and ended with exchange of sweets from both the sides agreeing to maintain peace and tranquility on International Border.
Meanwhile, in the second incident, a Pakistani national moving in a suspicious manner near the border fence was arrested by the BSF in Kathua sector. A Spokesperson said that the questioning of the arrested person was going on.
