IMF sponsored sport climbing event held

JAMMU: The two-day Metro Programme Jammu-2016, organised by Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) North Zone Committee in collaboration with Mountaineering Association of J and K concluded with a sport climbing competition at Sprawling Buds School, Jammu.
The purpose of the programme was to inculcate the spirit of adventure especially mountaineering, sport climbing and allied sports among the younger generation and to spread it to the nook and corner of this part of the country.
Spread over two days, the programme was attended by prominent personalities in the field of adventure. A debate competition, a painting competition for students, an Adventure films show and some interesting talks were part of the event.
Earlier, in the sport climbing competition which was held in only two categories of open Men and Women there was a fierce competition among the juniors and seniors to excel each other and the results were startling.
Shivani Charak, a national champion in speed climbing in the girls’ category, surpassed all the senior climbers to claim the first place while Himani Choudhary, a fresh climber in the women category, created a big upset to secure the second place. And finally, it was Asma Gul, a climber in the Sub Junior category, who received the biggest applause when she clinched the third place ahead of her very senior climbers.
Results in the open men category were, however, on expected lines with Mrityunjay Sharma, Aman Dogra and Ajay Deep Singh securing the first three position.
At the valedictory function, Principal of Sprawling Buds School, Arti Sharma was the Chief Guest who distributed medals, prizes and mementoes to the winners. Prominent among others present on the occasion included Secretary, Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee, Ram Khajuria; Rahul Sharma and Ramesh Khajuria (both Directors of Sprawling
Buds School); Shawetica Khajuria (Joint Secretary Mountaineering Association of J and K and Satish Bhan, a sports promoter.
