Historic Sankri Devta Mela commences

UDHAMPUR: District Development Commissioner Udhampur, Krittika Jyotsna on Tuesday inaugurated 3-day historic Sankri Devta Mela amidst beating of drums and festivity in Village Meer Tehsil Panchari of district Udhampur.
DDC Member, Jasvir Singh; BDC Panchari, Jeevan Sharma; ASP Udhampur, Anwar Ul Haq; Executive Engineer, JPDCL, Javed Hussain; Mela Office Tehsildar Panchari, Vipan Kumar and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, DDC Udhampur congratulated the mela committee for making elaborate arrangements for the grand Mela.
Holding of Sankri Mela after two years due to COVID-19 pandemic will go a long way to attract the tourists to the region and help to boost local economy, she said.
She appreciated the local students, who participated in various games and cultural programmes and wished them a successful career in life. The DDC said that the Government of India has launched scores of schemes for the welfare of the general public and appealed to the gathering to come forward and avail the same.
After inaugurating the mela, the DDC took a round of stalls installed by the Department of Agriculture, Horticulture, Sericulture, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Fisheries, Health, Tourism, RDD for generating mass awareness regarding different schemes.
The DDC called upon the officers to put in sincere and dedicated efforts to make the general public aware about the different Central and UT Government sponsored schemes, tailored especially for upliftment of rural people.
The DDC member Panchari-Moungri thanked the district administration for extending full support for organizing the mela. He said that pilgrims, tourists and people of all beliefs come from different places of the district and outside the UT to be a part of the mela.
Earlier, the DDC Udhampur also paid obeisance at the Sankri Devta Temple and prayed for the peace and prosperity of the people of the district.
District administration has made elaborate arrangements for smooth conduct of the Mela like uninterrupted power, safe drinking water, sanitation, medicare, Police Control Room, Assistance Booth and security.
Sankri mela Committee thanked the district administration for the support and help to organize such a mega event.
A number of temporary sweet shops, toy shops and small eateries established by the locals as well as outside vendors were the main attraction for the general public.
On the occasion, the Youth Services and Sports Department Udhampur organized rural sports and cultural activities with the involvement of school students of the area.
