Hassels in cash less

Dear Editor,
The possible negative fallout of a cashless society, being aggressively advocated by Prime Minister Modi, has been rightly pointed out. Transaction cost, Internet hassles and cyber crimes are some issues. There is one other aspect which the government has ignored. Small shopkeepers provide some services like arranging recharge of TV dishes and pre-paid sim cards of cellphones. They get some commission from the companies concerned for this. However, when people will resort to paying this amount online, the real losers will be these shopkeepers who will be deprived of their commission. The gainer will be big companies which pay this commission to the ‘agents’ at present. And the government claims that its aim is to benefit the lower and middle classes. How will this happen?
