Stable economy

Dear Editor,
Former PM Manmohan Singh, speaking on demonetisation, said it had caused misery to the common man and was not properly planned. As a result, the GDP may slide by about 2 per cent. The Finance Minister stoutly opposed the remarks, even as many MPs asked him to pay heed to the concerns of Manmohan Singh, who was a prominent economist. Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen has called the demonetisation move ‘despotic action that has struck at the root of economy based on trust’. Unfortunately, the PM, along with his Finance Minister, are hell-bent on going all out with the ill-planned decision. This is why the government and the RBI are changing their instructions every day. It is very likely that if the so-called crusade of the Modi government fails, the consequence for our economy would be disastrous. If that happens, the revival would be slow and torturous for the toiling masses.
Ram Prakash,
Jourian
