JAMMU: Eminent economist, former Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Bank and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader, Dr Haseeb Drabu assured that if PDP voted to power, would carve out a path of equitable and balanced development in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that agenda of party was aimed at inclusive development and growth of every individual.
Dr Drabu was speaking in a lively interactive session with prominent citizens of the civil society of Jammu which was held here on Sunday. Heads of various organisations and associations of Jammu took part in the interactive session to highlight the concerns and expectations of the people of Jammu from the next government.
Various issues regarding trade and commerce were discussed, various disparities between the different regions of the State were highlighted, but the major concern of all the associations was the need for transparency in the system at all levels and accountability of the officials in all fields.
Drabu, while addressing the concerns of the people present, dispelled all fears and said that if their party came to power there will be no discrimination of any sort between the regions of the State. He also highlighted the fact that during the previous tenure of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed as the Chief Minister there was absolutely no discrimination between the different regions of the State and if their party came into power all the regions would be treated equally adding that they would concentrate on support and infrastructure development and reduce the discretionary powers of the bureaucracy.
Drabu laid emphasis on region specific economic policy and the need for increasing the domestic private investment to strengthen the economy of the State in the long run. He also stressed the need for developing special education zone in the region to make it an education hub.
Yuvraj Vikramaditya Singh, the Guest of Honour, highlighted that he would ensure and look into the development of Jammu region as a distinct tourism destination and extend the stay of tourists in the region to double or triple of the present day situation. He also highlighted the need for strengthening the existing religious tourism in Jammu region.
Prominent among others present included Ved Mahajan senior PDP leader, Amreek Singh Reen PDP nominee for Gandhi Nagar Constituency and Deepak Handa, PDP leader.
Among the heads of various organisations who were present on the occasion include Rakesh Gupta, President Chamber of Commerce and Industries; Annil Suri, President Bari Brahmana Industrial Association; S.L Sehgal, President Kashmiri Hindu Migrant Organisation; Dr Adit Gupta representing Private Colleges; Davinder Chowdhary, President Railway Taxi Association; Chander Gulhati, President of J and K Automobile Dealers Association; Col Sawhney, Tarun Singla, Raju Chowdhary, Sandeep Jain from Jain Yuva Sangh, Anil Gupta from Bahu Plaza Association and Reen former Chairman Federation of Industries.
The interactive session concluded with a vote of thanks by Deepak Handa.
