JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council (JKSSC) has refused to approve the annual calendar of activities submitted by the Jammu and Kashmir Amateur Kabaddi Association, the reason being pending elections.
The State Kabaddi Association turned a deaf ear to the repeated notices issued from the JKSSC with regard to holding of elections which irked the organisation governing sports in J and K.
“Besides Kabaddi association, a couple of other sports disciplines have also been denied the annual grant for different reasons. These include Winter Games, Kayaking and Canoeing and Power Lifting,” informed sources told.
A number of other recognised associations have also been permanently placed out of the purview of financial assistance of any kind from the government. These sports bodies are in the discipline of Skating, Lawn Tennis, Netball, Karate, Weightlifting, Swimming and Softball.
“Plagued by a prolonged management dispute, the Skating Association has
also been placed in the list of derecognised sports bodies while Lawn Tennis and Netball has not been able to hold any activity since long.
Other two sports organisations of Swimming and Softball have been suspended while there is a management dispute in Taekwondo,” explained the source.
However, grand-in-aid has been sanctioned in favour of Wrestling Association but
with a pre-condition that the necessary NOC is submitted by its president from the
parent department.
