Govt to request veteran sportspersons to act as ‘mentors’;Kuldeep Jamwal, Prof BA Shah to head Provincial Panel Committees

JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council is in the process of initiating a programme where veteran, accomplished sportspersons of yesteryears shall be requested to act as ‘mentors’ for their respective games.
Secretary State Sports Council Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, while speaking to the media, said, “We are fortunate to have a treasure of experience in our veteran sporting heroes. They have brought laurels for the State and the country. We would be designating them as Mentors and would be requesting them to share their accomplishments and experience with the younger generation. They have many a things to teach to the younger lot. It would be an honour and a blessing for younger players to excel under the guidance of these veterans.”
“Two provincial level committees have been constituted to suggest a panel of names so that a formal request can be made to our respected veteran players to act as Mentors,” Para Said.
Provincial committee Jammu shall be headed by Kuldeep Singh Jamwal, veteran Ranji Trophy cricketer and Vice President of J and K Rifle Association.
Romesh Mahajan (eminent sports administrator and former President Handball Association), Ram Khajuria (General Secretary Mountaineering Association), H.S Gill ( Vice President of Volleyball Association of J and K) and Rajesh Gill ( SP Prosecution and eminent Sports Promoter) shall be the other members of the Committee.
The Kashmir Provincial committee shall be headed by Prof B.A Shah (Member Sports Council), M.A Naik (Arjuna Awardee), S.A Hamid (General Secretary Football Association), Hafeeza Hassan (Prominent Skier) and Manzoor Wait (prominent cricketer and sports
administrator) shall be the members.
