NEW DELHI: Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law and Justice Abdul Haq on Saturday asked the government lawyers and law officers to steadfastly follow the cases pending in the courts to avoid unnecessary delays.
The minister said this while chairing a meeting of law officers and lawyers engaged by the government to plead cases in various courts on behalf of the state.
The minister was accompanied by Advocate General Jehangir Iqbal Ganai besides other officials.
The minister asked the law officers and officials to follow cases regularly so that these are disposed off at the earliest. He said that Government has devised an effective mechanism to monitor and review performance of lawyers and legal officers.
Abdul Haq said joint efforts need to be made to fix the loopholes in investigation and prosecution stages so that criminals are not acquitted for any lapses on part of the prosecution.
Expressing concern over certain shortcomings in cases against the government, the minister directed the law officials to support the state’s cases to make them strong and foolproof to ensure that the justice is delivered.
Abdul Haq said the Law Department is in the process of examining sample cases to identify various loopholes that have been exploited in the past by defense attorneys. He said that appropriate action will be taken against these loopholes to ensure fair judgment and avoid frequent acquittal and adverse judgments against the state. He further said the government will also fix responsibilities of the officers found responsible for leaving loopholes in the investigation that leads to adverse judgments.
