Due to its commendable performance, the endorsement to the Autonomous status was granted to Govt.College for Women Parade Ground Jammu by the University Grants Commission (UGC) on 20th Jan 2014.
A committee of UGC members had earlier visited the college in December 2013 for thorough verification of Infrastructure, curriculum and academic standard of the college. Thereafter the Jammu & Kashmir University ACT was amended by the Govt. to the incorporate Autonomous College under its ambit on 13th February 2014.
Further, the University cleared the autonomous status in the 104th university syndicate meeting held on 11-08-2014 and finally the notification to the effect was issued under No.F.Acd/1/14/10411-510 Dated: 15-09-2014.
Under autonomy the College aims at giving opportunities to teachers and students to make innovations utilizing their creative talents, improving the standards of teaching, examination and research and making them quickly respond to social needs.
This Autonomous College has the freedom to determine its own courses of study and syllabi, introduce new courses and to prescribe rules for admission, subject to the rules and policies of the State Government and evolve methods of evaluation and conduct of examinations. Promoting academic excellence, Inculcating the students the basic moral, social and spiritual values necessary for building up character and developing personality through courses in Ethics, General Knowledge, and environmental awareness to the students will be an important feature of the college.
