GMC Kathua conducts total hip replacement surgery under Ayushman Bharat scheme

KATHUA: Under the guidance of Principal GMC Kathua, Dr. Anjali Nadir Bhat and supervision of MS Associated Hospital GMC Kathua, Dr. Sangita Ajrawat, ‘total Hip Replacement Surgery’ was conducted under Ayushman Bharat Scheme (PMJAY) totally free of cost at Govt. Medical College (GMC) Kathua.
The patient who originally belongs to Sujanpur, Punjab was suffering from Avascular Necrosis (AVN) of left hip joint, a condition in which patient is having severe pain in hip joint leading to loss of range of motion and deformity.
Patient had initially consulted several private hospitals in Punjab where he was told that the cost of surgery would be around Rs 2.5 to Rs 3 lakh.
The patient finally visited Department of Orthopaedics, GMC Kathua where the surgery was performed by Dr. Rishabh Gupta (Assistant Professor & I/C HOD) along with his team, supported by Anaesthesia team which was led by Dr. Sanjay Kalsotra (Professor &Head) and Dr. Rajesh Angral (Associate Professor).
The surgery was performed under Ayushman Bharat scheme(PMJAY) totally free of cost.
Dr. Rishabh Gupta further added that Department of Orthopaedics, GMC Kathua has operated more than 50-60 patients under this scheme totally free of cost in past few months.
The patients hail from not just District Kathua but also from neighbouring districts and even from neighbouring state Punjab.
