UDHAMPUR: Increasing fatal road accidents on Ghordi Road forced the dwellers to come on the road and hold massive protest outside premises of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur. Protest was organised in order to show their resentment against the PWD, ARTO and Traffic Police Udhampur for their laxness and irresponsible attitude towards deplorable condition of Ghordi Road and ongoing state of lawlessness particularly in violating traffic norms. In Naib Tehsil Ghordi having 27 Panchayats, 65,000 population and just 22km from district head quarter, people are leading miserable life due to lack basic amenities too.
Annoyed people of the Ghordi locality assembled at Jakheni Chowk from where they took out a peaceful march which passed through Domail Chowk, Dhar Road and later held a protest outside the premises of Deputy Commissioner Office.
They raised slogans against the PWD, ARTO and Traffic Police for their utter failure to renovate much dilapidated Ghordi Road for the past couple of years. They alleged that PWD has never paid due heed towards deplorable shape road, despite their repeateds request to local administration and Govt.
Lambasting upon ARTO Udhampur, protestors alleged that nobody from ARTO Office gave serious attention towards this vital issue. They said number of times they approached ARTO and highlighted to press more matadors or bus services on Ghordi Road so that increasing menace of overloading can be reduced and lives of the people can be saved, but department never took it seriously.
Coming heavily on Traffic Police, they said none from department is ever seen to regulate smooth flow of traffic. Protestors alleged that due to ongoing tug of war between both ARTO authority and Traffic Police, nobody takes pain and responsibility to ensure smooth flow of vehicular movement on the outskirt link roads but prefer to keep confined to their Nakkas for their petty interest at the cost of innocent people.
