GGF, Lawrence School pay tributes to Nelson Mandela

JAMMU: Gandhi Global Family, J and K Youth Wing, on Monday organised a programme at Lawrence Public School to pay tributes to Nelson Mandela. Students and voluntary members of Gandhi Global Family paid floral tributes to Mendala. School Headmistress, Shivani Joshi in her welcome address said that Nelson Mandela, is revered for leading the fight against white minority rule in the African country and then preaching reconciliation despite being imprisoned for 27 years. He served as the country’s first black President from 1994 to 1999 and left power after five years as President, she said . She also welcomed the voluntary members of Gandhi Global Family for celebrating Nelson Mandela’s birthday. Those who spoke on the life of Nelson Mandela on this occasion included Sharmila Mehta, Rajni Jagpal, Vandana Gupta, Mohd Munawar, Asha Sharma, Saloni Sharma, Jyoti Verma, Sonia Gupta, Neetu Singh, Priyanka Dadwal, Rakhi Chauhan, Archana Sharma, Kailash Sharma, Veena Devi. Later a cake was also cut to mark the birthday of this icon leader.
The vote of thanks was presented by Amit Varma, Youth Coordinator GGF who advised to mark, Mandela’s 67 years of public service by spending 67 minutes on charitable services. He also urged people to honour, Mandela on his birthday through individual and collective acts of service.
It was also urged that youth across J and K should maintain peace and harmony in this difficult situation.
