General Secretary of the Association, Shashi Leekha informed that the violent mob has pelted stones on oil tankers damaging seven oil tankers at Sangam.
In this regard, a meeting was held in the office of Divisional Commissioner Jammu, in which IG Jammu, SSP Jammu, ADC and officials of IOCL were present.
In the meeting, the IG Jammu took up the issue of stone pelting with DIG Srinagar through video conferencing.
Shashi Leekha informed that the association asked district administration that despite the assurance given by the authorities to provide full security to the oil tankers, the tankers have been damaged by the mob in Srinagar. “The association has decided to suspend fuel supply to Srinagar Division till Monday”, he said adding that further course of action will be decided on Monday.
Meanwhile, the oil tankers staged protest against the district administration over alleged attacks on drivers by the miscreants in Kashmir Valley. Hundreds of tanker drivers parked their oil tankers and staged a protest in Jammu.
They, however, demanded that the government should compensate them for the damage caused to tankers and injuries to their drivers, besides providing them security cover in the Valley.
“We demand compensation and security for the tanker drivers going to Kashmir Valley,” protesters said.
