Five killed in separate road incidents in J&K

Jammu: Five people, including a minor girl, were killed in four separate road incidents in Samba, Poonch, and Ramban districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, police said.
Two sadhus, Baba Bhim Giri, 55, and Suresh Kumar, 52, both residents of Narwal bypass, were killed when their two-wheeler was hit by a truck coming from the wrong side on a bridge in Samba along the Jammu-Pathankot highway, they said.
The accident took place around 10 am when the two were headed towards Pathankot.
The driver of the truck, which way on its way to Jammu, fled the scene and efforts are on to arrest him, police said.
In Surankote area of Poonch, a passenger vehicle driven by 26-year-old Mohd Naseer Khan skidded off the road and fell into an over-100 metre gorge near his house in Bufliaz around 11.30 am. He died on the spot.
A 17-year-old girl, identified as Saboora Rafiq, was killed when she was hit by a speeding truck near the Banihal court complex along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Ramban district, police said, adding, they have arrested the driver.
An official said that girl identified as Saboora Rafiq (17) daughter of Advocate Mohammad Rafiq of Neel Banihal was crushed to death by a speedy truck near Court Complex Banihal on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway-44, when she was going to her school. The deceased was student of Girls Higher Secondary School Banihal.
According to relatives, young girl Saboora Rafiq was hit by a speeding truck near the court complex in Banihal and sustained critical injuries. She was immediately taken to SDH Banihal, where doctors declared her brought dead on arrival.
A case under relevant sections of the law has been registered and investigations taken up, an official said.
Meanwhile locals and relatives are demanding strict action against the driver. They also demanded foot-over bridge for students to cross national highway.
In another incident, a driver lost his life in a road accident in Dalwas area of Ramban district last night, police said on Wednesday morning.
According to police, a truck bearing registration number PB35Q-4481, while on its way from Jammu to Srinagar, collided with a dumper bearing registration number JK 19A-0166 from behind.
The official stated that in the incident, an unidentified truck driver died on the spot, and the body has been taken to the district hospital Ramban for legal formalities.
The officials said that the driver and helper of the dumper, namely Mohammad Akram and Bahar Ahmad of Sumber Ramban, were injured and have been shifted to the District hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, the police have taken cognizance of the incident and started an investigation in this regard.
