Extension in ITR date saved tax payers of penalties: Deepak

JAMMU: With the extension of date for filing annual Income Tax Returns (ITRs), now the hardships being faced by business community in the State has been mitigated to a large extent. This was claimed by BJP Professional Cell State Convener Deepak Kapahi while addressing media persons at party headquarters along with BJP State Spokespersons Brigadier Anil Gupta and Balbir Ram Rattan. Deepak said that due to the ongoing turmoil in the Valley the business community in particular was not in a position to file annual ITR and keeping in view such a situation, the matter was raised by BJP at the highest level at the Centre and in the State, which finally got nod with the Government of India giving ample time to get the returns finalised of all the tax payers and file their ITRs by 31st December, 2016.
If this would not have happened, the business community would have faced more hardships by way of penalties by Income Tax Department, he added.
“It is also pertinent to note that whenever this type of problem is faced, the BJP is the only party which takes the matter in hand and works to get the same resolved”, Deepak said and added that it has happened for the first time that seeing the plight of business community, any political party has intervened and got it resolved. He asked the people not to politicise this matter and cooperate business community in these days of turmoil in the Valley. Expressing gratitude to Arun Jaitley, Sat Sharma and Haseeb Drabu for coming to the rescue of the businessmen of the State, Deepak Kapahi also urged upon for kind intervention in the matters of getting extension of filing of VAT Audit, Annual VAT returns and filing of revise returns of VAT for the financial year 2015-16.
