Empowering Women and Celebrating Achievements: AIIMS, Jammu Commemorates International Women’s Day

On International Women’s Day, AIIMS, Jammu is proud to join the global community in celebrating the achievements, contributions, and resilience of women worldwide. This annual occasion, observed on March 8th, serves as a powerful reminder to recognize and honour the vital role women play in shaping societies and fostering positive change. International Women’s Day holds significant importance globally, serving as a focal point for raising awareness about gender equality and advocating for women’s rights.
This is an occasion to celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of women in various fields, including science, technology, arts, politics, business, and more. It recognizes and honours their achievements throughout history and in contemporary society. International Women’s Day promotes the idea of gender equality, emphasizing that all individuals, regardless of their gender, should have equal rights, opportunities, and treatment. It encourages society to challenge and dismantle gender stereotypes and biases.
This year’s theme, “Empower Her – Embrace Tomorrow,” reflects the commitment of AIIMS, Jammu under the dynamic leadership of Professor Dr Shakti Gupta, Executive Director & CEO,AIIMS Jammu to foster a world where women are empowered, equal participants in all facets of life, and catalysts for progress. Through various initiatives and programs, AIIMS Jammu continues to champion gender equality, diversity, and inclusivity.
The key highlights of AIIMS, Jammu’s commitment to women’s empowerment include having 55% female doctors and 80% female nurses as workforce. Professional courses offered at AIIMS Jammu continue to invest in programs that facilitate the professional development of women within the organization. Through mentorship, training, and leadership development initiatives, AIIMS, Jammu aims to create a supportive environment that encourages women to thrive in their careers.
Community Outreach and Education: The faculty and staff at AIIMS Jammu actively engage with local communities to promote awareness and education on issues pertaining to women like Cervical cancer, Breast cancer, Anaemia in women etc. By organizing workshops, seminars, and outreach programs, AIIMS Jammu seeks to empower women with knowledge and resources to overcome challenges.
Advocacy for Gender Equality: AIIMS Jammu is a staunch advocate for gender equality on both national and international levels. Through partnerships with like-minded organizations, like Chevening and British high commission, AIIMS Jammu had organized a two-days’ workshop in January 2024 to facilitate mentoring emerging leaders, particularly women in healthcare. AIIMS Jammu actively participates in initiatives that address gender-based discrimination and work towards creating a more equitable society.
To empower the girls of our country, AIIMS Jammu will go a long way by providing quality education by means of various medical, nursing and paramedical courses. With this AIIMS Jammu reaffirms its commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse world where women are empowered to lead, innovate, and create positive change. AIIMS Jammu is going to help young girls to pursue their dreams, break barriers, and contribute to all aspects of society.So, let’s celebrate the achievements of women and strive towards a future where equality knows no boundaries.
