Article 15 of the Indian constitution provide prohibition of discrimination on grounds of religions, race, caste, sax or place of Birth. Being a positive secular state, in India there are many constitutional and non- constitutional provision i.e regulations, commissions work for the development and upliftment of underprivileged and disadvantages group of society. During the 20th century many social movements and uprising provide platforms to Indian society for the eradication of existing evils like sati system child marriage gender inequality casteism dowry, a untouchability etc.
In spite of all these social awakening as well as provisions Indian society faces different evils and discrimination especially against minority and woman.
Basically woman is a major and noble part of any society. Her dignity and respect is the moral duty of everyone. Almost every religion and belief give respect to women.
Politically from Indian parliament to Panchayat and municipality they enjoy right of reservation. There are many facilities provided by Indian constitution and government to the girls student from first primary to universities both professional and non- professional.
There are only political provision. From social point of view there is a huge difference between theory and practice. Discrimination with woman in India is a socially recognized evil while politically they enjoy the preferential treatment. The Disease of social imbalance and gender inequality must be cured.
Now twenty first century witnessed intellectual revaluation among the young generation. Young educated class no doubt care about the rights and respect for woman and not interested about the demand of dowry. Traditional crime against woman like dowry, bride burning, extreme domestic violence, sati system, child marriage and disparity in education decreased due to the modernization and social awareness among Indians. On the other side modernization give Birth to many new types of social evils.
Unfortunately due to the growth of population, modernization and raising the flow of money among the capitalist and rich classis many evils occurs in our rich Indian civilization. poor and middle class girls became the victims’ of many modern evils like unsuitable marriage, demand of money flat and placement. etc.
Often due to the unavailability of settled and unsuitable boy, Girls parents organize their daughter’s marriage with a boy of low capability as compared with their daughter. I seen many examples where truck drivers, labourers, Uneducated shop keeper married with well educated Girls having reputed degrees like M.B.A M. Sc, M. Ed, B. Tech, M. Tech or MCA. These women faces many difficulties from their bridehood to death, and became the victims’ of lifelong discrimination. Mostly these things happen due to the unsuitability of groom for a bride. In Muslim families more than, 50 percent parents prefer their daughter’s marriage in relations without considering balance between couple. Inferiority compels among Girls is common.
For the maintenance of social balance and happy life of their children parents must consider the suitability of couple before marriage.
On the other side especially in urban India Girls and their parent’s faceing neo-dowry demand. It means marriage very often is a financial transaction in India. Often groom’s families bid for lakhs and crores of cash, flat or house. Groom’s families’ demand for placement of their boy from bride families is common in big cities.
Consequently these types of engaged as well as willing marriage led atrocities. Some women become imprisoned in their in-laws home and face age long structural inequality. They face different types of domestic violence. It is endemic and widespread. It is no surprise then that this is one of the main reason why families prefer to put Girls to sleep in the womb.
Non-fulfillment of demands sometimes spells death for the women either in form of murder or suicide.
However it is the responsibility and must be a fundamental duty of every Indian parent to determine their daughter and son’s with suitable life partner, and must not go against their will. Socio- economic and statuses balance between to bride and groom is very compulsory. Over youth must consider the fact that women is a very noble creature created by mighty God.
Wherever our government should not understand the problems and misery of women Justice will not be achieved. Law making bodies must prepare framework for the maintenance of dignity and respect for women especially for poor and middle doss unmarried Girls.
