Demonetisation way for long term benefits: CS

JAMMU: Chief Secretary and Chairman IIPA, JK Regional Branch, B.R Sharma asserted that sledge hammer approach like demonetisation is the way to have long term benefits.
“The guts of the common citizens surpasse the scholarly attributes and this move indicates that the citizens of India intend to participate in the governance process,” Sharma said while speaking at the programme organised by Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA).
IIPA J&K Regional Branch organised 4th Shri Ram Sahai Memorial Lecture on demonetisation in memory of Late Ram Sahai, one of the founding members of the Regional Branch.
Sanjay Kumar, Senior Advisor Deloittee, India, delivered key note address. The function was held under the guidance of Dr. Ashok Bhan, Patron IIPA and J.B.S Johar Honourary Secretary, J&K Regional Branch.
Sanjay Kumar in his key note address traced back the history of demonetisation and took a critical perspective on the implications of this major transformational policy of the government. He enlisted the effects of demonetisation from the perspective of various economic indicators and was of the view that the real benefits of demonetisation will accrue with time. He said that demonetisation has been able to take the stock of unaccounted money but hasn’t been able to curb the flow of black money into the system.
He said that the government is leveraging data analytics which will surely bring is transformational change and improve voluntary compliance in the long run.
Chander Gulati in his welcome address introduced the subject and the guest speaker to the audience. Earlier Nandan Kuthiala paid rich tributes to late Shri Ram Sahai and while recalling his contribution to the IIPA, Chamber of Commerce and Industries and many other organisations pointed out various aspects of his life as an industrialist who worked for the development of the industry in the State.
Rahul Sahai, Chairman, Sahai Group of Companies thanked the organizers of IIPA in institutionalizing this lecture series and offered his support for future events in this direction.
Dr. Komal Nagar, Joint Director Seminars, IIPA conducted the proceedings of the function. Dr. Anil Gupta, Joint Secretary, IIPA coordinated the event.
