DC Jammu interacts with IIMC Jammu students

JAMMU: IIMC Jammu organised a guest lecture on ‘Local Administration and Role of Media’ which was delivered by officer and District Magistrate of Jammu, Sachin Kumar Vaishya.
The special guest Sachin Vaishya introduced the students to the structure of government administration. He emphasised the role of local administration in better implementation of policies.
He also talked about scope for innovation in order to mitigate the ground social challenges. The 2015 batch IAS officer also shared the Jammu administration’s initiative of enrolling child beggars in government schools for their elementary education. He said the media’s role is important to present the officers’ work to the audiences in its true light.
DC Jammu said that media coverage can be positive or negative, but there needs to be balance. A fair viewpoint can be very helpful towards people who aren’t well informed, he said while pointing out how constructive criticism helps in nation building. Sachin Vaishya also answered various questions of students about media transparency, unbiased reporting, public awareness, and the Jammu and Kashmir elections.
The event, held at the IIMC Jammu campus, was attended by Dr. Dilip Kumar, Regional Director of IIMC Jammu, Vivek Pathak (IIS), OSD (Admin) and Integrated Financial Advisor, IIMC Jammu, Dr. Vinit Utpal, Assistant Professor (Digital Media), Dr. Ravia Gupta, Assistant Professor (English Journalism), Vishv, Assistant Professor (Digital Media), and Rajiv Kumar and Gulshan Kumar, academic associates.
Dr. Dilip Kumar, Regional Director of IIMC Jammu, presented vote of thanks, emphasising how integrating social development with public administration leads to better outcomes at the grassroots level. The event started with Dr. Ravia Gupta, Assistant Professor presenting a brief introduction about IIMC and its establishment to the special guest. The event was moderated by students, Anuja and Aditya. During the event, Sachin Vaishya also released four in-house magazines of IIMC Jammu designed by the students. These included Spectrum, Hashtag, Darpan and Kaleido. As a token of appreciation, the guest was presented ‘Communicator’, IIMC’s inhouse journal.
