Says sports helps in quick decision making

JAMMU: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jammu Avny Lavasa on Saturday flagged off a big 227-member contingent for National School Games in an impressive, colourful and well attended function at MA Stadium, here.
The contingent comprising of the athletes from eleven sports disciplines is proceeding for Delhi to participate in National School Games, being held under the aegis of School Games Federation of India (SGFI).
The Deputy Commissioner Jammu who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, was accompanied by Director Youth Services and Sports, Subash Chander Chibber, Deputy Director Central, Jitender Mishra, Joint Director Youth Services and Sports Jammu, Suram Chand Sharma, Deputy Director Planning, Ravi Sharma, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Jammu, Sukhdev Raj Sharma and a galaxy of dignitaries.
A total of 194 athletes of under-19 boys and girls across Jammu and Kashmir are taking part in 11 sports disciplines in this mega sporting event to be held in Delhi from June 5, 2023.
The sporting disciplines include Chess, Kabaddi, Handball, Kho-Kho, Basketball, Yoga, Rifle Shooting, Swimming, Gymnastics, Weightlifting, Taekwondo and Wrestling.
Earlier, in his welcome address Director Youth Services and Sports J&K, Subash Chander Chibber gave brief detail of the contingent and highlighted achievements of the Department.
He said sportspersons are the messengers of peace and harmony, adding that sports is the best medium to help youth not to derail from the mainstream.
While speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest, Avny Lavasa, who is herself an ace marathoner said that playing sports is a lesson in life, adding that sports helps in quick decision making even in adverse conditions.
She encouraged the athletes to give their best in accordance with keeping sporting spirit in mind. She hoped that J&K contingent will do well in the forthcoming National School Games.
