JAMMU: A Division Bench of the State High Court comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice B.S Walia on Tuesday granted one week’s time to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to get instructions regarding dates of elections of various Municipal Committees, Municipal Councils and Municipal Corporations.
DB passed these directions after hearing a Public Interest Litigation filed by H.R Sharma seeking directions to the respondents to hold elections of various Municipal Committees, Municipal Councils and Municipal Corporation as per the mandate of Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Act 2006.
Advocate Ankesh Chandel appeared for the PIL while Senior AAG S.S Nanda represented the State. Nanda appearing for the Chief Electoral Officer sought time on the pretext that final publication of Electoral Rolls was over on 31st March 2016. Upon this, Division Bench fixed 11th April 2016 to get instructions regarding the date of elections to be announced.
