Srinagar: Even as curfew remained in force in parts of Srinagar on Tuesday, a youth was killed on Tuesday after being hit by an Army vehicle in Kulgam, police said.
Curfew remained in force in interior areas of Srinagar on Tuesday as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order in view of the fourth day of mourning of a minor boy, who was hit by pellets during a protest.
Curfew continues in five police station areas of downtown (interior areas) city as a precautionary measure, a police official said here.
He said the curbs on the movement of people in the police station areas of Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, Safakadal and Maharaj Gunj have been imposed in view of the fourth day mourning of 12-year-old Junaid Akhoon, who was hit by pellets at Saidapora and later succumbed to injuries at SKIMS Hospital at Soura. He was buried on Saturday.
The official said the curbs in other areas of the city, where they were imposed yesterday in view of Muhurram, have been lifted.
With the lifting of the curbs from most areas of the city, there was increased movement of traffic around Lal Chowk this morning, while some vendors were also seen selling fruits, vegetables and other items, the official said.
However, normal life remained affected for the 95th consecutive day in the rest of the Valley following  killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani in an encounter with security forces on July 8.
The unrest, which has claimed 84 lives including that of two cops and left thousands of others injured in clashes between protestors and security forces, is in its fourth month as shops, business establishments, petrol pumps and educational institutions remained closed, while public transport continued to be off the roads.
Meanwhile, Owais Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Ghasipora village, was hit by an Army vehicle at Wanpoh, 70 kms from here, this afternoon, a police spokesman said.
Sheikh, who suffered critical injuries in the accident, was rushed to SMHS hospital here but succumbed to injuries.
Police has registered a case and started investigations, the spokesman said.
