SRINAGAR: The Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) headed by Chief Secretary (CS), Iqbal Khandey in its 88th meeting on Monday discussed and approved several proposals for allowing use of forest land for various developmental works coming up in various Forest Divisions of the State.

Financial Commissioner Revenue, Dr. Arun Kumar, Principal Secretary, Forests, R.K Gupta and other senior officers attended the meeting.

While clearing various proposals, Chief Secretary emphasized on compensatory afforestation and taking appropriate protection measures to prevent soil erosion.

The FAC also reviewed the progress of the payment of outstanding amount under the Jammu and Kashmir Forests (Conservation) Act from the user agencies including NHAI, PWD, PGCI, PHE, PDD, Northern Railway, I&FC, SPDC, Army, BRO, NHPC, CVPP etc.

It was informed that an amount of Rs. 22.192 Crore have been received from various user agencies in this regard. The FAC in its 79th meeting had directed that all user agencies should clear their outstanding payments at the earliest.
