Conference on ‘Biodiversity Conservation and Pollution Control’ begins at JU

JAMMU: A two day’s National Conference on ‘Biodiversity Conservation and Pollution Control- Challenges and Strategies (BCPC-2016)’ under UGC SAP programme of Department of Environmental Sciences started here on Wednesday.
On the occasion, Prof. Y.R Malhotra, former Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, was the Chief Guest, who inaugurated the conference. Prof. A. Mohandas, Emeritus Professor, National Center for Aquatic Animal Health, Cochin University of Science and Technology and Prof. A.P Das, North Bengal University, Siliguri, were the Guests of Honour. Prof. Prof. R.D Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, presided over the function.
Prof. Anil K. Raina, Convener of the Conference and Head, Department of Environmental Sciences presented welcome address. A total of 130 papers in nine different categories have been received from the researchers and scientists across the nation, he added.
Prof. A.P Das from North Bengal University, Siliguri emphasized upon the importance of Biodiversity contained in all the ecosystems and urged upon the public and managers in particular to work for its effective conservation and management.
Prof. R.D Sharma, Vice Chancellor in his presidential address hoped that the conference will provide a platform to the participants to deliberate on the issues.
Prof Malhotra stressed upon the audience to resort to sustainable way by living by ensuring judicious use of natural resources and adopt to minimum wastage and maximum recycling.
Dr. Deepika Slathia, Organizing Secretary of the Conference proposed the formal vote of thanks.
Rajeshawar Singh Jasrotia, Prof. H.S Sehgal, Prof. D.P Zutshi, Prof. G.A Bhat, Dr. Saimullah Bhat, Dr. SudehsYadav, Dr. Ankit Tandon, research scholars from different Universities from across the State, besides the official from the State Forest, Fisheries, Pollution Control Board, Directorate of Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing, National Institute of Hydrology were also present.
