LEH: As an endeavor to strengthen journalism in Ladakh, members of Press Club Leh (PCL) on Wednesday had an interaction session with senior editor and columnist PP Wangchuk here on Wednesday seeking his guidance and advice about ethics, tools and scope of journalism in today’s digital world.
Wangchuk, who had worked for decades with Hindustan Times, was last year nominated as Advisor to PCL.
Wangchuk advised budding journalists of Leh to have systematic planning, be optimist and be go getters to be efficient scribes. He said without a good planning, nothing will happen. Wangchuk observed that journalism can make a good impact on the mind of the people. He also advised members of PCL to develop a good reading habit to become good writers and journalists. Responding to questions by PCL members Wangchuk said that without any investigative reporting journalism is incomplete.
While sharing his experience in the field of journalism and changes in journalism that he has observed over the years, PP Wangchuk, who has been a journalist for over three decades with deputed national dailies, asked media persons associated with print media to be prepared for ‘digital journalism’ since future for print media doesn’t look that bright due to digitalisation.
“Print media is just a guest now for another 10 years,” Wangchuk predicted in view of the growing digital world, adding that now is time for digital journalism. He called it ‘dot com journalism’.
President PCL Morup Stanzin, Editor Reach Ladakh Bulletin Rinchen Angmo Chumikchan, STATE TIMES Bureau Chief Leh, Tsewang Rigzin, ETV Urdu Correspondent Nissar Hussain, Sahara TV Correspondent Pal Thiksay, Tashi Lhundup from Stawa Magazine, Yangchan Dolma from All India Radio Regional News Unit Leh, Stanzin Desal and Kunzang Chorol from Reach Ladakh, Greater Jammu Correspondent Jigmet Janspal and freelance journalist Jigmet Dadul attended the interaction session.
Press Club Leh was formed few years ago to promote and strengthen free, fair and fearless journalism in the erstwhile Himalayan Kingdom.
