Coaches get less, drivers more in Sports Council

0 36

JAMMU: Unbelievable, but it is a fact that the newly recruited contractual coaches in the State Sports Council get less wages then those casual drivers engaged recently.
A coach with a Post Graduate diploma in Sports from country’s reputed National Institute of Sports (NIS) Patiala that too with proficiency in the discipline has been engaged on a consolidated monthly salary of Rs 5,000 whereas a driver appointed on same lines gets Rs 7,000 per month.
On being enquired by one of such newly appointed contractual coaches, the coach was told by the concerned staff at the Sports Council that a ‘driver is a technical hand’, no matter if he has not passed even the board examinations.
Important to mention here that the autonomous sports body of State Sports Council recently engaged two coaches (wrestling and kabaddi) and four drivers on contractual basis with any advertisement.
