JAMMU: Shivani Charak, an ace sport climber of J&K, who recently brought laurels to the Union Territory (UT) by representing the country in the 19th Asian Games at Hangzhou, China was felicitated by her club, Tawi Trekkers J&K at Press Club of Jammu on Monday.
The dignitaries congratulated Shivani Charak for her great achievement and wished her the best for her future competitions. A gift hamper was also presented to her by the chief guest former Legislator, Ashwani Sharma.
Among others, who patted Shivani for the achievement were Zorawar Singh Jamwal, Chairman Team Jammu; Ajay Khajuria, former Director Tourism; Parveen Sharma, Chairman, CCBL; patron of the Club Rahul Sharma; president and general secretary, Ram Khajuria and Shawetica Khajuria respectively; Principal of GDC Katra, Prof. C K Khajuria; Director Physical Education of GCW Parade, Jammu, Suman Lata; Principal Oriental Academy, Vivek Chauhan; Vice Principal, St. Xavier Convent School, Mridhu Padha and a host of members of Tawi Trekkers.
While felicitating the distinguished sport climber for her remarkable achievement, Ram Khajuria said that Shivani has become the first woman and only the seventh sportsperson of J&K to participate in the Asian Games during the last 75 years.
He also disclosed that Shivani was now completely focused on Olympics to be held at Paris, France next year and gearing up for the qualifying event to be held in Indonesia in next month.
Shivani being only 21 years old has a long climbing career ahead of her and the club was confident of success at the world level. He thanked everyone who supported Shivani during her journey to the top position, especially the management of Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK) and J&K Sports Council.
Zorawar Singh Jamwal and Ajay Khajuria also spoke on the occasion and lauded the contribution of Tawi Trekkers for the promotion of adventure activities in J&K.
Zorawar Singh, who is also president of MAJK exuded confidence that with the coming up of climbing wall at M A Stadium in Jammu, the game of Sport Climbing would achieve greater heights. The function was sponsored by chairman of Sprawling Buds ICSE School Rahul Sharma, patron of Tawi Trekkers J&K.
