Civil Secretariat Srinagar to start functioning from Sept 18
Cabinet assesses flood situation, commiserates with victims.
JAMMU: The State Cabinet that met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday condoled the loss of precious lives in the unprecedented floods which have struck the State.
Commiserations were also expressed with those injured and displaced during the floods and those who have suffered on account of the calamity.
The Cabinet expressed complete solidarity with the flood affected people and firmly resolved to rebuild livelihoods, private properties and public infrastructure.
It also thanked the Government of India for the support given to the State and the help rendered in this hour of crises. The efforts of the Army, Air Force, NDRF, the Civil Society Organisations, NGOs, Individuals and all other stakeholders were deeply appreciated.
The Cabinet reiterated the requirements, projected to the Prime Minister by a group of Ministers of the J and K Government recently at New Delhi, for sanctioning relief for the flood affected people of the state in relaxation of SDRF norms. The Prime Minister was urged to issue the necessary sanctions in this regard.
The Cabinet decided that the State Government shall start functioning from the Civil Secretariat, Srinagar, from Thursday, the 18th September, 2014. It was also decided that no holidays shall be observed on Saturdays and Sundays in the state government offices in the Kashmir Valley, except Educational Institutions, till the closure of offices on account of Darbar Move.
Considering the enormity of the clean up and sanitation operations in the Srinagar Municipal Corporation areas, it was decided to divide these areas into three zones and put three senior officers incharge of each zone for this purpose, the following officers were asked to perform these functions.
Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmed, Secretary to the Government, Higher Education Department, Dr. G.N Qasba, Commissioner, SMC, Tufail Mattoo, Managing Director, J and K Cable Car Corporation.
The Housing and Urban Development Department shall work out the details in this regard immediately.
