CAIT urges farmers, Govt to end present face-off amicably

JAMMU: In view of ongoing farmers’ agitation in and around Delhi and possible inconveniences caused to various sections of economy, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on Tuesday held a conference with leaders of other sectors of economy and sections associated with Agriculture regarding implications of farmers’ agitation. In a unanimous resolution passed during the conference, the leaders of different sectors called upon the farmer leaders to resolve their issues soon with holding talks with Government and at the same time, they requested Government to listen to views and problems of farmers with an open mind for resolving the issues amicably.
The participants of conference said that they sympathise with legitimate demands of farmers because of fact that since Independence till now, the farmers in India have been doing deficit farming and therefore it is essential to convert deficit farming to profit farming for encouraging common farmer of the country to continue farming in a better way.
The conference said that in view of the current situation arising out of the farmers’ movement and possible impact of this movement on economic activities, an attempt will be made to hold a meeting of farmer leaders and all leaders of other concerned sections soon on current issues.
A formula should be drawn on mutual coordination to convert deficit farming into profit farming. In pursuance of this object, a joint committee of eminent leaders of all sections was formed under convenorship of eminent farmer leader Naresh Sirohi and Krishan Veer Chaudhary, as Joint Conveners. This committee will hold a meeting soon after interacting with agitating farmers’ leaders.
