The story of Kashmir has been full of hesitations, restricted thinking and pusillanimity. Mehbooba’s advent on the scene is one of the few good things that happened in the recent past. The article has rightly observed and highlighted her transformation both as a Kashmiri and an Indian. She has the daring, determination and the gumption to bite the bullet and deliver exceptional results. It bodes well and the government must latch on to fully exploit the providential opportunity. She should be given whole-hearted support and narrow political considerations should not cloud the long-term vision. The BJP as a party must come out of the straits and realise that the country and the citizens are more important than the political power and the misplaced dreams of religious glory.
