Amarinder SinghChandigarh:- Punjab Pradesh Congress chief Amarinder Singh today said that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has destroyed the century-old great and glorious Akali legacy so much so “the real and the true Akalis” were feeling suffocated and seeking a way out.

“The real and true Akalis are feeling suffocated as Badal has destroyed glorious Akali legacy,” he said.

He cautioned the “real and the true Akalis” not to make any wrong choices.

“Beware that you only make a better choice and not the wrong and the worse one,” he urged them, saying it was the future of Punjab that was at stake and everybody was concerned and worried about.

Reacting to the resignation of the daughter and son-in- law of late Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra from the Akali Dal, Amarinder said they were virtually forced out.

“It is a tragic reflection on the state of affairs that the inheritors of someone like Jathedar Tohra’s legacy had to find political asylum somewhere else,” he regretted.

He said, what Badal was heading today was in no way the same Akali Dal that was borne out of the great Gurdwara movement and had been conceived and conceptualised by great Sikh leaders like Baba Kharak Singh, Sant Fateh Singh, Master Tara Singh and others.

“It has just been reduced to a private profit-making company which only and only watches the business interests of the Badal family,” he regretted, while sharing the concerns of Akalis as a true Punjabi.

While appealing to the real and the true Akalis not to make any wrong choices in hurry, the PCC president said, they have a role and responsibility towards Punjab.

“You must ensure that you make a choice from bad to good and not bad to worse,” he told all the Akalis who were fed up with the “dictatorial attitude” of the Badals, particularly its president and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.

“We are all concerned with the future of Punjab and you must remember the mission of the founding fathers of the Akali Dal who sacrificed their everything for the general interest and not for enriching their own families like Badal,” he recalled, while hoping that they will not allow the great legacy of Akali Dal to be destroyed by Badal.
