JAMMU: The Indian Army on Tuesday hosted an inspiring women’s cricket exhibition match at Gharota Cricket Stadium, Jammu played between Rising Women Club and Safran Cricket Club, symbolizing the convergence of sports, women empowerment, and community development. This event aligns with the ideals of “Karya se Kushalta,” the Khelo India initiative, and the “We Care” campaign, showcasing the commitment to holistic nation-building.
Women’s participation in sports, especially in cricket, is an integral aspect of promoting gender equality and empowerment. The Indian Army’s initiative to organize this exhibition match serves as a remarkable example of their dedication to fostering a progressive society. The match underscores the role of sports in nurturing talent, discipline, and teamwork among women, thus contributing to their overall growth and self-confidence.
The occasion was graced by the presence of Dr. Sunniya Wani and Veer Naari Soma Devi wife of Sipahi Raam Chand who was killed in action 1971 Indo-Pak war. The presence of Dr Sunniya Wani emphasized the collaboration between Indian Army, Police Administrative Authorities and the community to create a platform for female athletes. The event Itself signifies the importance of grassroots initiatives in cultivating talent and promoting inclusivity.
The match was a tribute to the “Khelo India Movement, reflecting the government’s vision to transform India into a global sports powerhouse. The event’s overarching message of “We Care” resonates with the commitment to fostering an environment where women are empowered and celebrated for their achievements.
The exhibition match was followed by a prize distribution ceremony to honor the exceptional performances of the players. The winning team Rising women club was awarded a prestigious cash prize of Rs 11,000, recognizing their dedication and excellence on the field.
The runners-up, Saffron Cricket club were commended for their unwavering sportsmanship, and received a cash prize of Rs 5,000. The event was attended by 120 female students from Govt. Higher Secondary School, Gharota who also participated in a friendly match and were awarded a cash prize of Rs 1000.
The Women’s Cricket Exhibition Match stands as a testament to the Indian Army’s dedication to nation-building, empowerment, and fostering a culture of sportsmanship. It is a reminder of the power of sports in creating a stronger, more united nation.
