Two Punjab-based truckers nabbed with 40 Kg poppy straw

UDHAMPUR: Continuing its war against drug menace, police on Tuesday recovered 40 Kg poppy straw from two Punjab-based truckers at Motor Shed Naka, NHW Chenani and Lakhanpur respectively.
As per the details, a party of Police Station Chenani established a special Naka for checking at Motorshed and intercepted a truck (PB13AF 7402). During checking, officials detected a special cabin inside truck in which 2 bags filled with poppy straw (30 Kg) were hidden. The driver of truck identified as Sharafat Ali, son of Showkat Ali, resident of Qila Rehmatgarh, Malerkotla, Punjab was arrested and FIR No. 83/2022 under section 8/15 of NDPS Act was registered in Police Station Chenani. The Naka party was led by SHO Chenani Insp Om Parkash under supervision of Addl SP Udhampur Anwaar Ul Haq and SDPO Chenani Ahmed Shaafi.
Meanwhile, Lakhanpur police also arrested a Punjab-based trucker and recovered 10 Kg poppy straw from his vehicle, which was intercepted by a police team led by Insp Vijay Kowatl near Golden gate. The accused driver was identified as Ashok Kumar, son of Devi Dass, resident of Govind Nagar, Choura Bazar, Jalandhar, Punjab.
