UDHAMPUR: A Two Day Yogshivir, under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahaotsav, commenced in GDC Udhampur on Monday to mark the International Yoga Day 2022. The event was organised by the NSS unit of the college under the supervision of NSS Programme Officers, Dr RippyBawa and Dr Ajay Sharma in collaboration with the NCC, 2 J&K girls Battalion of the college under the supervision of ANO Prof Shivani Sharma in which about seventy NSS volunteers, thirty four NCC cadets, fifteen college aluminis and others participated. The overall programme was conducted under the guidance and patronage of the principal, GDC Udhampur, Prof(Dr) Romesh Kumar Gupta.
The Yogshivir was conducted by Yogacharya, Yash Paul Khajuria, Yogpracharak, Patanjali YogPeeth, Udhampur, J&K. The series of Yogasanas started with the chanting of the Gayatri Mantra followed by suryanamaskar. Various asanas of immense benefit like Vajra asana, PawanMukt Asana,Mandook Asana, Bhujang Asana, Trikona Asana, Dhanur Asana, Navasana, Sheetali, ShavAsana etc. were demonstrated by the yogacharya and followed by the gathering. He also elaborated the benefits of all these asanas and deliberated upon the need of inculcating yoga in ones life. The yogshivir of the first day ended with Pranayam and its benefits. Dr Rippy Bawa, the NSS PO of the college while speaking on the occasion emphasised on making Yoga an integral part of our daily routines to make out maximum benefit out of it.
Dr Ajay Sharma, the NSS PO also spoke on the occasion and made the students aware about the Permanent Mission of India – ‘ The World of Yoga’ which would be presented at the UN headquarters in New York. The NCC ANO, Prof Shivani Sharma also briefed the audience about how yoga helps to boost one’s mental and social well-being by harmoniously unifying the body with the soul.
Prof Romesh Kumar Attri, HOD Botany, motivated the students for a better life style by adopting yoga. Speaking on the occasion, the principal of the college Prof(Dr) Romesh Kumar Gupta told the students about the role and initiative of India in marking this day as International Yoga Day as this idea was conceived by PM Narendra Modi who proposed this concept on September 27, 2014, during his speech at the UN General Assembly.
