Omar: Govt destroying public institutions, sidelining merit

State Times News
Srinagar: Opposition National Conference (NC) working president Omar Abdullah on Saturday accused the PDP-BJP government of “destroying” public institutions in the state by “sidelining” legal and established recruitment processes.
“Ever since, the PDP-BJP government came to power, all its ministers and the chief minister started treating public institutions as their personal fiefdoms.
No regard is being given to reputed recruiting institutions such as the Public Service Commission and the Services Selection Board,” Omar said here.
The trend, he said, was marring the merit and leaving future of the youth in hands of “corrupt politicians”.
Omar said the government had gone into an overdrive of “dismantling” the set selection procedures in various departments, thereby promoting unfair practices in the government departments. “Corruption and nepotism has become the order of the day as appointments don’t happen on merit basis anymore but are defined by the influence of the ruling dispensation on officers,” he alleged.
This has become a source of discouragement to the hard- working youth of the state and the chief minister is herself responsible for “bulldozing” the state institutions, he added.
