NC sets up relief camp at Banihal

BANIHAL : National Conference candidate for Banihal Sajjad Shaheen on Tuesday concluded a week-long extensive tour of flood and landslide hit areas of Banihal Assembly Constituency and took stock of the damages caused to residential houses, infrastructure and standing crops.
He expressed shock and grief over loss of life and expressed his solidarity with those who have suffered massive losses due to flood havoc.
Shaheen visited Neel, Ukharhal, Batroo, Khari , Trigam, Kacharbass, Ahma, Kumbla, Buzla, Tragan, Kawna, Chapnari, Danar, Nowgam, Tethar, Chamalwas, Chudwas and other areas, interacted with the people and asserted the commitment of Omar led government to provide the sufferers all necessary assistance.
Shaheen urged the administration to carry out survey of the affected areas as several houses have been damaged, small bridges washed away besides maze and other crops totally damaged so that the affected population is adequately compensated.
Shaheen also sought immediate release of compensation in favour of the kin of those killed in the natural calamity. He visited the residence of Gafar Malik, resident of Neel, who was washed away in floods at Mahu and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.
Sajad Shaheen also condoled the demise of Mohammed Hanief Lone, resident of Dardahi, Banihal, who was killed in floods in Kashmir.
Shaheen said major chunk of land has been eroded in Chapnari, Kacharbass and Tragan villages, as a result of there is severe threat to the lives of people. He assured the affected people that entire State shared their miseries.
National Conference unit Banihal has meanwhile set up a relief camp for flood sufferers and those stranded on the National Highway. The NC volunteers have provided free rations to thousands of passengers during the past few days.
