Modi must focus on governance, not temple

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to rebuild the Ram temple in Ayodhya by 2016 and fulfill the party’s commitment to the electorate. The former Union Minister also suggested calling a meeting of Islamic clerics, including from abroad, to seek an endorsement. Swamy must know that by inviting people from outside, he is suggesting that the issue be internationalised.
The most important task ahead of this new government is to stop ceasefire violations along the International Border and the Line of Control. According to field reports, Pakistani Rangers have targeted at least 22 BSF border posts, besides pounding several Indian villages with long-range 82 mm mortar shells for several hours recently.
The basic and most important duty of any government is to protect lives and properties of its citizens. Building a temple or a mosque is not a primary matter of governance.
