KATHUA: A team of the Legal Metrology Department (LMD) Kathua headed by the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Kathua Ajay Kumar Verma and comprising Inspector Legal Metrology Kathua and Dayalachack conducted intensive checking of various business establishments at Hamirpur, Thara kalayal, Thara Kalwal, Marheen, Kootah Morh, Gujru Nagrota, Chann Arrorian Dayalachack, Maroli, Khanyara, Rajbagh, Logate Morh, Bagial, Govinsar, Lakhanpur, Basholi, Main Bazar Kathua and adjoining areas.
During inspection, 35 traders were booked for violation of various provisions of J and K Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 1997 and Package Commodities Rules. In all 32 Challans of the booked traders were compounded by the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Kathua and a penalty of Rs 28,800 was imposed on the erring traders.
Meanwhile, the department has directed all the traders to use only verified Weights and Measures for business transactions and display MRP, PKD, Net Contents with complete address and Customer care Number on the commodities to be sold in package Form.
The department has also warned the unscrupulous traders to desist from using unfair trade practices to cheat the innocent consumers and also appealed the Consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing the commodities.
